With its roots in 18th and 19th century, the New age movement reached its popularity in the latter half of 20 century. This was in part due to development of ideas based on Positive Psychology, holistic world views, self-help and motivational disciplines, consciousness research and philosophical implications of quantum physics.
While non-religious, the new age movement promotes a monism based on unity and oneness in the universe and to many it represents the juncture between science and spirituality.
The new age movement can be considered as a western philosophy even though it was greatly impacted and influenced by eastern philosophies and spirituality.
